| HOOOOOOOOT.... |
[Jul. 18th, 2009|10:05 pm] |
Wanna throw myself into a giant pile of snow right now. Maybe tunnel me to the center and never come out again until night.... yugh yugh yugh... To the weather's credit, it's dry heat and it's only been stifling ever since I came home from shoe shopping. I swapped my worn-out, hole-y, black privos for... new black privos. *cough* I almost bought another pair of shoes b/c I'm looking for some casual shoes I can wear on the weekend that aren't the privos (saving those for walking to and from work). Problem is I also bought 2 pairs of dress shoes a few weeks ago. *sigh* I do this all the time. Don't buy shoes for about a year and then go nuts. This is not good for my wallet.
So yes, other than crappy stifling house, the weather isn't too bad. I walked to our brand new, highly convenient train station and took the train to Kensington. I had actually went shoe shopping yesterday at a mall and a stand alone store, but didn't have any luck. I knew there was a decent store in Kensington so I thought I'd give that place a try. I haven't been to Kensington for awhile now and I thought I could stop by the Heartland Cafe for some coffee and some pie. yum yum...
Anyway, got the privos and found out that Heartland Cafe was closed!!! Devastation. I guess the owner of the building (who is also the owner of Teatro?) did not renew their lease so he could make his own little cafe.. Sucks. So I decided to try a new cafe called Gratitude Cafe that I passed by earlier. I guess it's a vegan restaurant and all the titles of the dishes start with 'I am...', and when you order and when they bring your order, they'll repeat the order as 'You are...'. I got 'I am inspiration', a banana and peanut butter crepe, and when the lady put it on my table, she said, 'You are an inspiration...' 0_o A little weird and the funny thing is that she had already turned around and walked away before I processed what she said. LOL. The crepe was delicious and really really pretty. They also served their water in these large, glass bottles. Not your average, run-of-the-mill glass bottles, but pretty, differently shaped ones. Thought that was cool. Service kinda sucked but it wasn't like the staff weren't friendly. It's hard to explain. They seemed like nice people, but they didn't really talk to you except to take your order, bring your dish, take your dish and take your money. The rest of the time they kinda stuck around the kitchen. *shrugs* It was an interesting experience all the same.
Crepes are probably one of my favourite things to eat. I actually made some tonight when I got home. Savoury this time. Grilled prawn, zucchini, green onions, mango and swiss cheese. mmmmmmm... I'm starting to really enjoy BBQ... after I got over my fear of the thing blowing up in my face. ha ha...
Hmmm... I guess that's it. Oh wait, yes, I forgot - Actually, one of the reasons I went out to the cafe was also to draw people - my sketchbook assignment. The teacher told us not to be creepy, but I couldn't do it. LOL! I did a really rough drawing of a guy and I practically slammed my sketchbook closed. Ha ha ha... Seriously. Couldn't do it. Don't know how ppl do it. An invisibility cloak would have been useful at that point....
Also, YAAAAAY FOR PATTY BEING BACK IN TOWN!! Seeing her tomorrow at the Sun & Salsa Festival. Woo hoo! |

| Nice weather, ahoy! |
[Apr. 13th, 2008|11:39 pm] |
So... after being hit by two snowstorms on Thursday, we get this absolutely fantastic weekend. O_O I wish I spent more of it outside to enjoy it, but I was hit by a bout of incredible laziness......actually, something that habitually comes Saturday morning and ends around Sunday evening. ^___^;;;;
Anyway, went shopping with Auj on Saturday and though I am poorer now, I have a few more items in my closet. I haven't gone shopping in soooo long, and the last few times that I did go shopping, I couldn't find anything I liked. This time was the opposite and we didn't even hit that many stores. (My shopping tolerance level wasn't so good that day. I felt bad, but Auj had to go do some BBQing [mmmm...] so we couldn't have stayed that long anyway.) Got a shirt, tank top, a pair of pants, pair of shorts (which I got to wear today! Hooray!!) and bras. B-R-A-S. ha ha... It's so lame, but I was super happy about getting them. Finding ones that fit decently enough and aren't blaringly apparent when you have a t-shirt on is really hard for me. ...I won't go into any details, but it's really hard to get me bra shopping, so I am greatly relieved to have it done with. *lol* This deserves a Pokemon-worthy peace sign. *PEACE SIGN*
I have a lot of purchases that I need (new frames) and a lot of purchases that I want to make (telescope!!). My savings account will slowly dwindle. ha ha.. I desperately need a rain jacket, though. *sigh* I have to make it a priority to buy one...
Also, recently watched I, Robot. I forgot how much I enjoyed that movie. Sometimes it's just nice to randomly go through the movies that you already own instead of heading out to Blockbusters. I plan on hitting up some LotR trilogy action sometime this month. XD YAY! ... *pause* Legolas... *drools* |

| I am much poorer now... |
[Jan. 11th, 2008|05:23 pm] |
I don't know what happened to me but almost as if I was in a trance, I went on a huge shopping spree. O_O One of them wasn't too bad - I was paying for a class (MANDARIN I. I've finally bit the bullet and fully intend to torture my new teacher with mispronounced words and butcher the use of intonations).
The rest of my purchases, however... I can't say there's anything particularly practical about them. I had the day off today and decided to go to the Sunnyside Garden Centre (which was a journey in itself...it involved dirt roads and circling -_-;;) but it was really an altogether fun experience. Understandably enough, only the indoor centre was open. I went inside and in the first row - miniature roses! I spent most of my time here trying to decide on what plant to get. After much deliberation, I ended up with pink roses and white roses. And the first item in the third row? Peace Lilies! I was so excited. Here, the top two items of my list were being sold and I found them right away! I might even buy one for the office as well. Apparently they prosper even under fluorescent lights. ooooooh... Anyway, I've been ogling my plants since I've gotten home. They're so cute! They're a little over 20 cm high. XD Once I have better lighting, I will take pictures.
Anyway, at the garden centre, there were so many nice house plants. I ended up walking around for another half an hour and if I didn't have to pick anybody up, I'm sure I would have been there for even longer. In my head, I will be back in the spring time. That's when they'll have finished growing their Lily of the Valley I honestly cannot wait. ha ha...
As for my other purchase, I bought my books. >_< I am now poor. I can't wait until they arrive (late January - early February, one book is pre-ordered). My 'Stars and Planets' book and a couple of 'Art of' Ghibli film artbooks. |

| Ali's Unusual Shopping List |
[Jan. 7th, 2008|05:49 pm] |
Hmmm... the list is as follows.
1. Stars and Planets - Chapters.ca There's a new edition online and it's less than 1/2 the price of the previous edition that is available at Chapters. Must have.
2. Peace Lily Inspired by Hot Fuzz. I really want one. Apparently it is one of the top 10 air cleaning plants (study by NASA). OOoooooooh... O_O
3. Miniature Rose Actually - it doesn't necessarily have to be the miniature rose. I used to have two pots ofr them before they died. I just want a flowering perennial.
4. Narnia: Lion, Witch and Wardrobe (Collector's Edition) Just because and if I can find it (stupid Disney vault). ha ha...
5. Studio Ghibli Artbooks - Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Mononoke and/or Laputa Auj got me the one for Spirited Away. *pets* It's so expensive but with the Canadian dollar doing fairly decently, I can always order from an American website and just play for the shipping.
Edit: There's more!
6. Pool table 0_o This would be impractical... not to mention, where would I put it... not to mention, if I move, where would I put it? I suppose, worst comes to worst, I could get an apartment and sleep underneath it. XD But I really want one... I also want to get better at it. If I do get one...it will be a long long long time before I do...
That's all for now. I did order the bunny calendar from deviantArt after Christmas...but I haven't received it all. So sad. mimimimi... |
